Bahía Blanca, City of Meetings
Located in a strategic geographical spot, Bahía Blanca links the immense Patagonia and the vast Pampa in the Buenos Aires province. This privileged feature turns the city into a true meeting point, where commerce, university education, culture, nightlife, sport, theater, outdoor entertainment and fun converge.
The number of buildings and urban spaces represent the city heritage. The constructions from early twentieth century are a true example of a thriving dynamic Bahía Blanca. Surrounding the Rivadavia Square, the most important green area downtown, one can identify them as witnesses of the past and evidence of the continuous progress into the future: the National Bank, the Cathedral, the Chamber of Commerce, the City Hall, the Court House, among others. A little further we can also find the Municipal Theater, the Argentino Club, the Rivadavia Library.
Our respect for culture is evidenced in over twenty museums of varied offer for the whole family. They deal with a number of interesting areas such as the history of the city, the port, migrations, industry, railroad, aviation. Also, visual arts, applied sciences and technology have their matching spaces for reflection. During “La Noche de los Museos” (Museum Night) most exhibition rooms open their doors simultaneously to display their best and most select collections.
The Municipal Theater possesses a proud history presenting the best of local and national culture. The building, architectural heritage and pride for the inhabitants, is located at the beginning of Alem Avenue, one of the many urban rides worth visiting.
The extensive programming of the theater is evidence of the cultural variety of the city, including ballet, classical music, opera, plays, folk music and modern rhythms as well.
Universities and Colleges provide a distinct look at the city which due to its intense academic life attracts a number of visiting students, leading professionals and prestigious scientists. For this reason, Bahía Blanca is recognized both nationally and internationally as a city of congresses and seminars.
Throughout the year there are a number of sport activities as well. Football, basketball and car races are among the many options, which also include archery, rugby, hockey, softball. Foot races are also appealing for those interested in open air activities and invite tourists to be part of and enjoy these sporting events.
Recognized as a major deep water port terminal, the port is in itself a most interesting ride. Its urban features, its typical cuisine in its canteens, its festivals, its traditions, and its lifestyle by the sea provide a peculiar identity for the citizens of Ingeniero White. Off the port, the unspoilt and unexploited reserve of Bahía Blanca Bahía Falsa and Bahía Verde awaits curious sailors in its excursions by boat.
